Reza Pahlavi, a member of Iran’s former royal family, said after meeting members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament in London that any agreement leading to the survival of Iran’s “current regime” would be a strategic mistake and would not be accepted by the Iranian people.
Referring to his visit to London, he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account that he had discussed Iran’s domestic situation, the repression of its people, and the need for Britain’s Iran policy to place the demands and interests of the Iranian people at its core, in talks with Emily Thornberry, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons, as well as several other members of the committee.
He stated that negotiating with a regime that, according to him, has killed more than 40,000 Iranians during recent protests is not only morally unacceptable but also a major strategic mistake.
Reza Pahlavi emphasized that any agreement that results in preserving the current Iranian regime or its remnants will fail and will not be accepted by the Iranian people.
He further added that, with or without the support of the international community, the Iranian people will overthrow the regime and restore freedom to their country.
