The United Afghanistan Front, led by Sami Sadat, has announced the official launch of its military operations against the Taliban. Sadat, a former commander in Afghanistan’s previous government forces who is currently residing in the United States, announced the move in a video message released on Sunday, 11 Asad.
He said the front is fighting for the implementation of the constitution approved by the 2004 Loya Jirga and under the banner of Afghanistan’s tricolor flag. According to him, the objective of the front is to restore a system based on the republican-era constitution and a structure in which the president is elected through a democratic process.
Referring to provisions of the former republic’s constitution, Sadat stated that it emphasized equal rights for women and men, the prohibition of all forms of discrimination and prejudice, freedom of expression, and the recognition of women’s rights to education, employment, and political participation. He described these principles as among the main objectives of the United Afghanistan Front.
The leader of the United Afghanistan Front also said that the past five years have demonstrated that political and civil efforts to engage with the Taliban have produced no results. According to him, the Taliban came to power through force, and therefore political negotiations with the group would not provide an effective solution.
Sadat announced that forces under his command would henceforth target Taliban members, commanders, and bases in military operations. He also accused the Taliban of increasing pressure, arrests, harassment, and killings of Afghan citizens, saying these actions justify the continuation of armed resistance from the front’s perspective.
The United Afghanistan Front was established in 1402 in the Solar Hijri calendar (2023) in the U.S. state of Virginia. Three years after its formation, on Saturday, 10 Asad 1405 (August 1, 2026), the front announced the start of its first military operations against the Taliban.
The front has claimed that it carried out its first attack on Thursday, 8 Asad, along the Kandahar–Spin Boldak highway in Kandahar Province. Although details of the operation have not been released, a video published by the front shows two individuals lying on the ground, with a firearm visible beside one of them.
The United Afghanistan Front also claimed that it carried out an attack on Taliban forces on Saturday evening in Lashkar Bazaar, an area of Lashkar Gah city, the capital of Helmand Province. In the released video, gunfire can be heard, and an individual is seen falling to the ground at close range in front of the camera.
On Sunday morning, the front further claimed that it had killed two Taliban members in Badghis Province, alleging that they had been involved in the torture of former Afghan security personnel. However, no details were provided regarding the exact time or location of the attack, and only an image showing two individuals lying on the ground alongside an overturned motorcycle was released.
In response, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, rejected these claims. During an online press briefing, he told reporters that the United Afghanistan Front operates only on social media platforms, including Facebook, and that the alleged attacks by the group did not occur.
So far, the claims made by the United Afghanistan Front, as well as the Taliban’s statements regarding the alleged attacks, have not been independently verified.
