Women’s rights activist Shafiqa Khpalwak has reacted to reports of women being detained and civilians being shot at in Herat, describing such actions as “blatant and unjust oppression.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote that imprisoning women and opening fire on ordinary people cannot represent what the Taliban refer to as the “Omari system.” According to her, this situation will not last forever, and the cries of oppressed people will not go unanswered.
Khpalwak also shared several verses of critical poetry in her message, arguing that the actions of those in power are harmful to both the people and the country.
The remarks come after a video showing the detention of two women by inspectors from the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Herat’s Leilami Market circulated online, triggering widespread reactions across social media.
