The Spain national football team secured its place in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup with a dramatic victory over Belgium. In a closely contested and thrilling match, the Matadors defeated Belgium 2-1 to position themselves among the tournament's top four teams.
Spain started the match stronger and took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal by Fabián Ruiz. However, Belgium responded quickly, with Charles De Ketelaere scoring the equalizer in the 41st minute, sending both teams into the locker room on level terms.
In the second half, both sides had opportunities to alter the scoreline. Yet, as the match neared its final minutes, Mikel Merino successfully found the back of the Belgium net in the 88th minute, restoring the lead for Spain.
Belgium pushed to equalize in the remaining minutes, but Spain's defense held firm until the final whistle, sealing the Matadors' advancement to the semi-finals.
With this victory, Spain becomes one of the final four teams in the 2026 World Cup and will face France in the semi-finals a highly anticipated match between two of European football's giants.
