The Taliban’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has announced that Mawlawi Najibullah Hayat Haqqani, the acting minister of the ministry, has signed the detailed development master plan for the Islam Qala border port in Herat province.
According to the ministry, the plan includes the construction of a road network, commercial and service areas, public facilities, green spaces, transportation infrastructure, and a water supply system. The initiative is intended to standardize infrastructure and improve land-use management at Islam Qala, one of the most important commercial border crossings between Afghanistan and Iran.
However, the ministry has not yet released details regarding the project’s implementation timeline, expected completion date, or funding mechanism.
Experts say the success of such projects will depend on transparent implementation, effective oversight, and sustainable financing areas that have faced significant challenges in recent years.
