The European Union has announced that its Humanitarian Aid Office has allocated an additional €50,000 in support of flood-affected populations in Afghanistan, to be provided to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The office stated on Wednesday, 13 Jowza, via the social media platform X, that with this new contribution, the EU’s total assistance for flood victims in Afghanistan will rise to €225,000. The funds will be distributed through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
According to the EU Humanitarian Aid Office, the funding will be used to provide cash assistance, shelter, clean drinking water, and healthcare services to families affected by the floods.
The office further noted that the aim of this support is to assist families who have lost their homes, assets, and basic means of livelihood as a result of the recent flooding.
The European Union had previously also announced €175,000 in late April to support flood-affected communities in Afghanistan, aiming to deliver emergency humanitarian assistance to approximately 12,000 affected individuals.
Afghanistan has experienced severe rainfall and widespread flooding in recent months, resulting in significant human and economic losses. International relief organizations continue to call for increased assistance to support affected families.
