The General Directorate of Examinations under the Taliban has announced that the nationwide 1405 (2026) Kankor examination in Kabul province will begin on Thursday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 13 Jowza, the authority said that the biometric registration process for Kankor candidates in Kabul has been completed.
According to the statement, candidates who have not yet completed their biometric registration have been instructed to report to Kabul University to finalize the process.
The General Directorate of Examinations stated that biometric registration is being carried out to ensure a transparent, accurate, and orderly administration of the Kankor examination.
The statement further noted that the general Kankor examination in Kabul will be held over Thursday and Friday, with thousands of candidates expected to participate.
Meanwhile, educational restrictions on girls and women in Afghanistan remain in place. Under current policies, girls are barred from education beyond grade six and are also prohibited from attending universities, effectively preventing them from participating in the Kankor examination.
These ongoing restrictions in recent years have drawn criticism from international organizations, human rights bodies, and education activists, who have repeatedly called for equal access to education and higher learning opportunities for all Afghan citizens.
