In Herat, the Taliban’s Department of Industry and Commerce says that an iron-melting factory in the province has the capacity to produce 40 metric tons of construction steel products per day.

Ghausuddin Ishaqzai, the factory’s manager, said the facility produces steel products with thicknesses ranging from 8 to 14 millimeters for use in construction.

According to Ishaqzai, the factory’s raw materials are imported from Iran, and $2 million has so far been invested in the operation. He added that 60 people are employed at the factory, which consists of five sections.

Meanwhile, Bashir Mohammad Sirat, the Taliban’s head of Industry and Commerce in Herat, said that six other factories are also operating in the province’s iron-melting sector.

According to Sirat, these six factories produce high-standard, high-quality steel products and collectively have the capacity to produce hundreds of metric tons of iron per day.
