The Taliban’s media office in Maidan Wardak province says that, for the first time in the province, 156 kilograms of Neelam stone, also known as “green sapphire,” has been sold through a bidding process.
According to the office, the precious stones were sold for 240,000 Afghanis. Local Taliban officials said that the bidding process for mining resources should be conducted transparently.
This comes as the bidding process for the extraction and sale of Afghanistan’s mineral and natural resources has, in recent years, been regarded as one of the key economic issues under the Taliban government. Officials in Maidan Wardak have also stressed the importance of transparency and conducting legal bidding processes in the mining sector.
