The United States Department of State has stated that it supports Pakistan’s right to defend itself against terrorist attacks. This position comes amid rising security tensions in Pakistan’s border regions and the continuation of attacks by armed groups.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, noting that Pakistan like any other country has the right to defend its security and territorial integrity against terrorist threats, said that the people of Pakistan have suffered extensive harm over the past years due to terrorist activity.
These remarks come in a context in which numerous reports of increased attacks and clashes in Pakistan’s border areas have emerged in recent months. Officials in Islamabad attribute a significant portion of recent insecurity to armed groups operating in these regions.
At the same time, the United States has consistently emphasized in its official positions not only the right of countries to defend themselves, but also the need to reduce tensions, prevent the expansion of conflicts, and pursue political and security-based solutions to resolve crises.
The recent statements from Washington are viewed as falling within the framework of support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself against terrorist threats. They are not interpreted as support for large-scale military operations or an escalation of hostilities, but rather as part of the United States’ diplomatic stance and broader policy approach toward regional security issues.
