Today, July 15, 2026, marks the first anniversary of the passing of Matiullah Turab, one of Afghanistan’s renowned folk and epic poets.
Turab passed away on July 15, 2025, due to heart disease. At the time of his death, his close associates and numerous cultural figures stated that his condition had worsened in recent years as a result of mounting restrictions, psychological pressure, and difficult living circumstances.
Matiullah Turab was widely admired across Afghanistan for his folk, epic, and socially critical poetry. His works vividly reflected the country’s diverse social and political realities, earning him a distinctive place in the hearts of the Afghan people.
On the occasion of the first anniversary of his passing, many writers, poets, cultural figures, and admirers have paid tribute to his memory, describing him as one of the most influential voices in Pashto literature and folk poetry.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy endure.
