A number of dismissed employees at the Taliban-run Kabul Municipality say that the dismissal process within the institution is being carried out without clear administrative standards and largely based on arbitrary decisions.
Speaking to media outlets on Thursday, May 21, the employees said that several experienced and professional staff members who had worked in the municipality during the previous government were dismissed without clear explanation and without following legal procedures.
According to them, in some cases new individuals have been appointed to replace former employees a move that, they believe, has increased distrust and reduced administrative efficiency within the municipality.
Some employees also said that accusations such as absenteeism or work negligence were raised without proper investigation, which then became grounds for their dismissal.
Alongside these complaints, reports have also emerged about heavy workloads, lack of transparency in development projects, and concerns over administrative corruption within Kabul Municipality.
The protesting employees have called for an impartial review of administrative decisions and a reconsideration of the dismissal process. They stressed that the rights and positions of professional and skilled workers should be protected.
However, Kabul Municipality has so far not provided any clear or official response regarding the matter.
At the same time, several internal sources within the municipality say that recent changes in the institution’s working structure have been implemented rapidly, and in some departments employees’ work experience has received less attention. According to these sources, if the situation continues, it could negatively affect the quality of urban services in Kabul in the long term and reduce citizen satisfaction.
