The human rights organization Haalvsh has reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran has executed a 25-year-old Afghan citizen in Zahedan prison on charges related to drug offenses. The organization identified the executed individual as Abdullah Jalali, originally from the Khash Rod district of Nimroz province.
According to Haalvsh, the execution was carried out on the morning of Wednesday, 27 Jowza. The organization stated that Abdullah Jalali was arrested four years ago in the city of Zahedan on drug-related charges and was subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court after completing legal proceedings.
Haalvsh also reported that Jalali was married and had two children. The organization warned that executions of Afghan nationals in Iran have increased in recent months.
Human rights groups have previously expressed concern over the rising number of executions in Iran, particularly following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, and have warned about the continuation of this trend.
According to United Nations data, Iran executed 2,159 people on various charges last year.
