Japan’s national football team secured a commanding 4–0 victory over Tunisia in its second Group F match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, significantly boosting its chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
Japan entered the match without one of its key players, Takefusa Kubo, who was sidelined through injury. However, Ayase Ueda delivered a standout performance to fill the void left by the star midfielder and played a decisive role in his team’s success.
Ueda was the most influential player on the pitch, scoring two goals and providing an assist. Daichi Kamada and Junya Ito added the other goals as the Samurai Blue completed an emphatic victory.
Beyond earning three valuable points, the match also marked a historic achievement for Asian football. By scoring four goals in a single World Cup match, Japan became the first Asian nation to reach that milestone in the tournament’s history.
With the win, Japan moved to four points and remains firmly in contention alongside the Netherlands for a place in the knockout rounds from Group F. Tunisia, meanwhile, suffered its second consecutive defeat and, despite having one match remaining, was eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
