Taliban Minister of Higher Education Nida Mohammad Nadim says that rebellion against the Taliban’s “Islamic system” is illegitimate and that those who rebel are “deserving of death.”
He made the remarks during a graduation ceremony at Parwan University. The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education said in a statement on Saturday that Nadim spoke about the duties of citizens and officials and the need to obey the Taliban’s leader.
The Taliban’s Higher Education Minister said that people are obligated to implement the orders and decrees of the Taliban government and obey the emir. He described the laws of the former republican government as the product of public opinion and said that refusing to obey the orders of republican leaders had been permissible, whereas disobeying the Taliban’s leader is “wrong and impermissible.”
Nadim also described the Taliban’s laws and decrees as guidance from God and His Prophet and called on the public to support the Taliban’s system of government.
A message from Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada was also read at the graduation ceremony. The message urged students not to use their education solely for material gain, but rather for personal development, cultivating good qualities, and serving religion and Muslims.
According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education, 857 students graduated from Parwan University, none of whom were women.
