Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, announced on Wednesday that India has sent five tons of medicines to Afghanistan. In a post on the social media platform X, he emphasized India’s continued humanitarian assistance and its commitment to supporting the welfare of the Afghan people.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs had previously reported in June that it had dispatched 20 tons of essential materials for child immunization to Kabul. The shipment included vaccines for BCG, tetanus, and diphtheria, aimed at strengthening Afghanistan’s child healthcare programs.

India also announced in April that it had provided 13 tons of vaccines and related medical equipment to support the country’s tuberculosis immunization program for children.

Over the past year, New Delhi has sought to expand its humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan while simultaneously developing its engagement with the Taliban authorities, broadening cooperation across various sectors.

These aid deliveries come at a time when the Taliban administration, following heightened military tensions with Islamabad, has halted pharmaceutical imports from Pakistan and is seeking alternative routes and sources to meet Afghanistan’s medical supply needs.
