Mostafa Taati-Moghaddam, head of the Anzali Free Zone Organization, announced that the first 5,000-ton shipment of fuel from Russia has arrived at Iran’s Caspian Port via the Caspian Sea. According to him, the cargo will be transported to Afghanistan through Iran’s railway network.
According to the Tasnim News Agency, Taati-Moghaddam, referring to development plans for Caspian Port, said that facilities for the direct transfer of cargo from ships to railway wagons will soon be available at the port. He noted that this measure, combined with the legal advantages and incentives offered by the Anzali Free Zone, will reduce fuel transit costs and enhance Iran’s competitiveness in international transport corridors.
The head of the Anzali Free Zone Organization added that the annual capacity for fuel transit through Caspian Port will increase once the railway route becomes fully operational. He emphasized that this process could not only contribute to the economic development of the Anzali Free Zone but also strengthen Iran’s position as a major regional logistics hub.
Taati-Moghaddam further stated that the development of this route would facilitate trade with Central Asian countries and the Eurasian region, while also creating opportunities for expanding combined sea-and-rail transportation for other goods, including petrochemical products and grain.
He added that connecting this route to the railway networks of neighboring countries would provide economic actors with access to broader markets and create new opportunities in regional transportation and trade.
The launch of this new transit route comes at a time when the Taliban administration, following tensions with Pakistan, has expanded its trade relations and cooperation with Iran, Russia, and Central Asian countries.
