A member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) council, Ain-ul-Zaman, has called on religious scholars, tribal elders, and the people of Balochistan not to join the peace committees being established with the support of the Pakistani military.
Ain-ul-Zaman, who identifies himself as a resident of Balochistan, claimed in a video message on Friday that the TTP has continued its attacks against the Pakistani military and that the army has become unsettled due to what he described as its security failures. He alleged that Pakistani officials blame neighboring countries in order to conceal their own problems and occasionally carry out airstrikes.
He further claimed that the Pakistani military is encouraging local communities to fight against the TTP under the name of “peace committees.” He urged religious scholars and tribal elders to discourage people from joining these committees and to prevent them from becoming involved in the conflict between the military and the TTP.
Ain-ul-Zaman stated that the people of Balochistan and Pashtun-majority areas should avoid what he described as military efforts carried out under the names of peace committees and local militias. He also alleged that the military is attempting to influence public opinion through its representatives and individuals with local influence.
Meanwhile, Pakistani authorities have repeatedly alleged that some perpetrators of armed attacks in Pakistan operate from Afghan territory. However, the Afghan Taliban have repeatedly stated that Pakistan’s security challenges are an internal matter and that Afghan soil will not be allowed to be used for activities against any country.
